Master of Science (MSc) in TCM

(120 ECTS)

The study for Master of Science (MSc) in TCM comprises 120 ECTS, which corresponds to an indicative study time of two years in full-time study, or three years in part-time study.

Duration of study

The maximum duration of the study for the Master of Science (MSc) in the TCM program is generally twice the standard duration of the study. If the maximum study time is exceeded, the student will automatically be exmatriculated, i.e., he/she will no longer be able to obtain a degree at SWISS TCM UNI for this study program. In cases of hardship, the university management can extend the study time.

Application for MSc in TCM

The application deadline for a Master of Science (MSc) in TCM degree program starting in the fall is Juli 1, and in the spring is January 1.

Admission Requirements
Admission to the Master’s program in TCM is granted only if a Bachelor’s degree in TCM from a Swiss university or an equivalent degree is obtained. Language skills
The languages of instruction are German and English. The written and oral examinations are held in German. The Master’s thesis can be written in German, English, or Chinese.

Enrollment
A written application must precede enrollment. A complete application must include the following documents:

  1. Application form
  2. Complete proof of previous educational background with relevant identification documents (original or officially certified copy)
  3. Passport photo
  4. Proof of payment of the application fee
  5. Current criminal record or equivalent document
  6. Medical certificate (see the medical certificate as a template)
  7. Personal assessment about job-relevant skills and job motivation
  8. Other documents required in individual cases

Modules of Master of Science (MSc) in TCM (120 ECTS)

These modules provide in-depth competencies in five levels for a conscious, experienced work as a TCM doctor according to Chinese training standards.

Module

Level 6 – Vocation TCM
In the modules Human Science, Health Culture, and Basic Knowledge, students deepen their knowledge to gain a comprehensive and systematic foundation for working as a TCM physician according to Chinese standards.

Level 7 – Harmony
Building on the TCM Bachelor Degree knowledge, students further deepen the teachings and content from TCM classics, increasingly transfer ancient knowledge to contemporary practice, and further integrate the sources of TCM.

Level 8 – Disharmony
At the level of TCM doctors according to Chinese standards, clinical analyses, therapy concepts, and treatment methods are taught and trained according to an integrative medical approach.

Level 9 – Clinical and Professional Practice
Through intensive training in exercises, internship, and clinical experiences, students deepen their know-how from conventional medicine to further strengthen the foundation for working as an integrative physician.

Stage 10 – Introduction
Students increasingly participate in research projects to gain competence for professional work as practicing TCM physicians according to Chinese study standards or as general scientists.

Educational goal Master of Science in TCM

Graduates of the Master of Science in TCM can make in-depth medical assessments of the disease process at hand. Successful completion of the Master of Science in TCM program is a prerequisite for further doctoral study in TCM and graduation as a Doctor of Science (DSc) in TCM or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in TCM.

Master’s thesis leading to the MSc in TCM degree.

The master’s program includes the writing of a written master’s thesis. This includes the formulation of a research question, the creation of a work or research plan, the execution of the corresponding work, and the writing of the associated report, which is structured, consistent in content, clearly formulated, and correctly referenced. The paper should also include a discussion, a summary of the research results, and a bibliography.
